My grandson a nightmare and my daughter doesn’t know how to cope
DEAR DEIDRE: MY daughter’s 13-year-old son is turning into a troublesome teen and she doesn’t know how to cope.
He was always a sweet boy but now he swears and is disrespectful to her. He won’t do what she asks and always answers back.
He’s also starting to be influenced by boys who smoke, drink and hang around on the streets.

My daughter is terrified he’ll get involved in drugs or crime. I’m 59 and she’s a single mum aged 35.
My grandson’s dad left when he was tiny and though he sees him every other weekend, my daughter thinks her boy is missing a full-time father figure.
How can I help?

DEIDRE SAYS: Your grandson’s troubles might stem from his parents’ split.
It is good he still sees his dad regularly but perhaps your daughter needs to have a word with her ex and try to agree some joint boundaries for their son.
Suggest she contacts Family Lives (familylives.org.uk, 0808 800 2222) for further advice. And my Troubles With Teenagers pack will help too.
